Back to the 50's in Texas
If you find yourself hungry while flying in Southeast Texas, you just might want to stop by The Southern Flyer Diner at the Brenham Texas
airport (11R). The Southern Flyer Diner is a 50's style diner that is located adjacent to tie-down parking on the east side of the runway at midfield.
After parking, a 30 second walk brings you inside the diner where you are immediately taken back in time to the 50's. Mostly likely you
will be greeted by one of the waitresses dressed in a poodle skirt and bobby socks. You may choose to sit inside at a booth or at the tables
and chairs from the period. All of the booths have jukebox controls mounted on the wall where you can fire up the large jukebox in the center of the room.
Another option is to sit outside in the screened-in porch that overlooks a large pond, if the weather is agreeable.
Apparently when starting the restaurant, the owners had to decide between a World War II theme and a 1950's theme. They figured the 50's theme
would be more popular with non-pilots. More...
